WHY I AM RUNNING

Buckle up, folks, because it's official! After a whirlwind of discussions, soul-searching, and countless cups of coffee, I am ecstatic to announce my candidacy for Tarrant County Commissioner, Precinct 1. I'm thrilled to have you on board for this exciting journey!

My journey is deeply rooted in a legacy of trailblazers. From my fearless great Uncle, Attorney W.J. Durham, who broke down barriers at the University of Texas Law School, to my amazing mother, Maryellen W. Hicks, who became a judge at the age of 27, the spirit of service and courage runs through my veins. And let's not forget the incredible Aunt Deborah Peoples, who recently made history as the first Black Chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party.

Their stories have shaped who I am today, inspiring me to make a real impact in our community. Serving as the youngest woman on my hometown's Fort Worth City Council was a dream come true. Together, we achieved incredible milestones, like Southeast Fort Worth's groundbreaking Sierra Vista affordable housing development. We turned the tide on 20 years of unfulfilled promises, transforming East Rosedale into a thriving hub and sparking re-development at Texas Wesleyan University and beyond. And let's not forget the monumental Renaissance Square project along Martin Luther King Freeway. This $100-million development not only created jobs but also brought a plethora of amenities to Precinct 1.

But here's the secret to our success: we did it together and never gave up. I'm here to tell you that I will NEVER stop working for you and am committed to working alongside you.

This is just the beginning, my friends! I'm eager to share more about my track record and, most importantly, to hear your thoughts on how we can forge ahead together. Get ready for an exhilarating journey of positive change and relentless determination. I'm in and thrilled to have you in, too! 🚀✨
